Eastlands College of Technology (ECT) is a Nairobi-based technical training institution founded in 2003 (officially opened 2015) by the Strathmore Educational Trust, aiming to empower underprivileged youth in Kenya’s poorest districts through vocational education. It focuses on automotive, electrical, and mechanical engineering using a dual training system, bridging industrial skill gaps. Eastlands College of Technology Eastlands College of Technology +5 Key history and developmental milestones for ECT include: Origins (2003–2014): The project began in 2003 when the Strathmore Educational Trust committee sought to assist disadvantaged youth, leading to the creation of the Informal Sector Business Institute (ISBI) to teach basic business skills and ICT. Establishment (2015): The college formally opened in 2015, shifting focus toward technical and vocational training, such as welding, electrical installation, and automotive engineering, adopting the motto "Per aspera ad astra" (from adversity to the stars). Mission & Focus: Located near Donholm (Off Lunga Lunga Rd), it specifically serves the "Jua Kali" sector and residents of Nairobi’s east side, providing practical, industry-linked training. Accreditation & Training Model: ECT is accredited by the Technical and Vocational Education Training Authority (TVETA) and the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA). Key Programs: The institution offers a Dual Training System combining industrial training and technical skills in Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical Maintenance, and Solar Installation. Key Partnerships: ECT works in partnership with other vocational centers for exchange programs and focuses on equipping youth with specialized skills in areas like TIG/MIG welding and automotive maintenance, including in electric vehicles.
